Policy
St Aloysius' College recognises significant achievement amongst its student body with the awarding of Colours. The College awards Colours in recognition of a student achieving a prescribed standard in a particular area of school life. In making a wide range of activities eligible for Colours, we reflect something of our educational philosophy of the formation of the whole person. A commitment to the pursuit of excellence among our students is also recognized in the system of Colours.
The Colours candidate, in the course of his College life and/or as a representative of the College, must attain a high standard of achievement. In addition he must display such qualities as the College promotes as appropriate to his activity: contribution, team spirit, conduct, good will, co-operation. The Principal will exercise his prerogative to withhold the award if he is satisfied a candidate has failed to bring credit to his chosen field.
Practice
Colours are awarded for those activities of College life for which prescriptions have been approved and published. The College Colours Committee is charged with administering the award of Colours. They accept the names of candidates who fulfil these prescriptions, confirm these and forward them to the Principal for approval. This approval is signalled to the candidates and College community by publishing the names of awardees on noticeboards and in the Gonzagan Newsletter. The awardee may display his award on the College Blazer only after securing written authorisation.
The Colours Committee is empowered by the Principal to:-
- formulate Colours policy, to submit such policy to the Principal for approval and to administer such policy;
- accept nominations of Colours candidates and Gold Blazer candidates and forward these to the Principal for approval;
- consider and recommend to the Principal any revision of policy and enact any directive from the Principal with respect to Colours award.
With respect to these functions, the College Colours Committee operates according to the Statement of Policy and Practice, the prescriptions for each activity and any by-laws of the College Policy as approved. Such statements are available from the College Office.
