St Aloysius' College

Cadets

Our school cadet unit is a major part of the co-curricular activities offered at St Aloysius' College. Entry to the unit is open to boys who are 12 ½ years or older. The earliest that boys of this age may join cadets is from the commencement of term three in year 7. Membership of the unit is voluntary. Service in the unit is for a minimum of 12 months and this is normally from 1st July to 30th June the following year.

The unit offers outdoor activities twice a year through its annual camp, held late in first term, and bivouac, held late in third term. Formal training takes place at regular Friday parades and this training is continued and confirmed at each of the two field activities. The cadet unit offers experience of leadership at levels commensurate with a cadet's age as he progresses through the ranks. Promotion courses are held at the end of June for cadets in years 9,10 and 11.

One of the cadet unit's acknowledged roles is to train potential school leaders.
