St Aloysius' College

HSC

2006 School Certificate

College has received a pleasing set of results in the School Certificate for 2006.

Some of the significant features include:

  • Outstanding results in Australian History. 51% of our candidature were awarded a Band 6 (90 & above) compared to 7% state-wide. This reflects the strength of History at SAC.
  • Continued pleasing results in Science and mathematics. These subjects have traditionally been strong and they continue to achieve well above the state.
  • A greatly improved performance in English literacy. To achieve 4 times more band 6 places than the state is a great achievement, especially when one considers the strength of girls in this area.
  • Significant improvement in Geography with 28% of our students achieving a band 6 result
  • 8 “all-rounders” received a Band 6 result for every subject. These boys were: M. Brennan, M. Favaloro, R. Jordan, D. Lynch, A. Pasfield, J. Reyes, G. Salmi, E. Talas. This is a tremendous achievement. Congratulations to those students.

The results indicate the following:

  • The current year 10 cohort is a strong group with many “all-rounders”
  • There is a growing culture of academic achievement within the middle years of schooling at St. Aloysius
  • The hard work of staff to enable students to achieve to their potential
  • That the work of the English faculty in revising programmes, texts and units of work: along with a greater commitment to academic excellence and rigour, has been rewarded with outstanding results.
