Years 7-12

While carefully following the requirements of the Board of Studies, Teaching & Educational Standards NSW, there are opportunities to choose texts or electives reflecting Ignatian values. The program of study is designed to promote a lifelong love of learning whilst developing the whole person. Education in the Ignatian tradition is focused on reflective learning. Learning how to learn, promoting independent learning, developing research and investigative skills, and exploring the significance and relevance of what is learnt are all priorities in our academic program.

The Core curriculum for Years 7 to 8 is:

  • English
  • Geography (Year 7 only)
  • History
  • Languages other than English (LOTE)*
  • Mathematics
  • Music
  • Personal Development, Health and Physical Education
  • Religious Education
  • Science
  • Technology
  • Visual Arts

*In Year 7 students study French and Japanese. In Year 8 one language must be studied from French, Japanese or Latin.

The Core curriculum for Years 9 to 10 is:

  • English
  • Geography (Year 9 only)
  • History
  • Mathematics
  • Personal Development, Health and Physical Education
  • Religious Education
  • Science

Students are expected to study two of the following electives across Years 9 and 10:

  • Commerce
  • Drama
  • Film Studies and Video Production
  • French
  • Geography
  • Japanese
  • Latin
  • Music
  • Photographic and Digital Media
  • Physical Activity and Sports Studies
  • Visual Art
  • Visual Design

Senior School studies for Years 11 and 12 are divided into two parts:

  • Preliminary Year (Terms I to III of Year 11)
  • HSC Year (Term IV, Year 11 and Year 12)

In the Preliminary Year students must study 13 units. All students are required to study:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Studies of Religion

Students then choose from the following elective subjects:

  • Ancient History
  • Biology
  • Business Studies
  • Chemistry
  • Drama
  • Economics
  • French
  • Geography
  • Japanese
  • Latin
  • Legal Studies
  • Modern History
  • Music
  • Personal Development, Health and Physical Education
  • Physics
  • Senior Science
  • Visual Arts

Extension I courses in Mathematics and English are offered in Year 11.

In the HSC Year students may apply to study extension courses in History, Music and Languages. Acceptance is based on outstanding performance in the Preliminary Year.

Extension II courses in English and Mathematics are also available in the HSC year for suitable candidates.

Students may also choose between continuing with the Board of Studies Course, Studies of Religion, which is examined at the HSC, or choose to study a non-examinable school-based course in Religion.
