To secure strong financial support for
the benefit of St Aloysius' College,
to ensure it's pre-eminence in education,
to promote effective school community relations
and to foster a positive, enduring school spirit
Securing St Aloysius' College
St Aloysius' College has many fine traditions including outstanding academic results, numerous sporting achievements, a challenging and diverse co-curricula programme, a dedicated staff and a very strong sense of community spirit and civic duty.
One hallmark of the College, since its establishment in 1879, has been the strong philanthropic support of each generation to develop and advance the College.
While tuition fees cover a major portion of a boy's education at St Aloysius' College, fees do not and cannot provide all the funds we need to undertake building projects and new major capital works. The Foundation Building Fund is vital for the provision of new buildings and resources.
The College Building Fund, which appears as a voluntary contribution on the School fees, provides for the recurrent expenditure and maintenance (paint, carpet etc) of existing buildings only.
There is a mistaken perception in the community that St Aloysius' College has adequate funds on which to draw. The reality is that without strong and active support of the College Family, the College would not have the financial capacity to complete many major projects that enhance the education of our boys.
This is why the St Aloysius' College Foundation - the College's fundraising arm - was established in 1989. Its mission is to seek philanthropic support for the College's ongoing development and protect to it from a possible decline in government funding. The funds raised ensure that the College will remain at the forefront of education in Australia by maintaining, updating and expanding our educational facilities to keep abreast with the latest educational trends and by providing the best possible education for our boys.
Activities of the College Foundation
Since its establishment in 1989, the College Foundation has been involved in the following capital developments at the College:
| The purchase of the old Milsons Point Public School and its transformation into the new campus for the Year 3 to 6 Junior School | Cost: $6.2 million |
| The renovation and extension of Wyalla into a Year 11 and 12 facility | Cost: $3.5 million |
| The construction of the new Senior School Learning Centre, an integrated library and computer education facility | Cost: $750,000 |
| The extension and renovation of the Pavilion at the College Oval | Cost $250,000 |
| The current Foundation project is the renovation of the Year 7 to 10 Middle School Building. This work commenced in December 2000 and will continue for the next four years. The work involves the complete renovation and modernisation of the building | Estimated Cost in 2000: $4 million |
The College, through the activities of the College Foundation, has spent over $14.7 million over the past 12 years, providing the best and most modern facilities possible for our boys.
Prior to the commencement of each of these capital projects the College asks itself "What is in the best interests of our boys?" The College exists for our boys and they are always in mind when the College looks at capital development.
Gifts and Pledges
The College has a number of major capital projects which are essential to sustain and nurture our philosophy of providing 'Excellence in Education'. Gifts are sought to raise the funds needed for these projects specifically identified by the College Council.
Gifts, of varying amounts according to the donor's capacity, are either pledged over several years or given as a single gift. All gifts are gratefully received and acknowledged.
All donations to the St Aloysius' College Foundation Building Fund are fully tax deductible.
There is only one possible source of funds for the future development and enhancement of the College - the College Community. The College's commitment to 'Excellence in Education' is achievable with the continuing generous support of parents, Old Boys, past parents and friends of the College.
We ask you to join with us and become an active participant in the College Foundation and to join the thousands of members of the College Family who have contributed to the College to make it a better place for our boys.
How You Can Help
We need to raise four million dollars over the next four years to fund the redevelopment of the Middle School Building. It is only with the strong and active support of the Aloysius' community that we will be able to complete the current project and to secure the long-term future of the College.
There are several ways in which you can give to the St Aloysius' College Foundation Building Fund - either as a single gift or a pledge. Most donors choose to pay their gift over a five-year period. All donations to the Fund are tax deductible. The success of the appeal is based upon all members of our community contributing within their capacity to do so.
